Information regarding LIT/LING 601 and Staatsexamen exams

Dear fellow students,

some of you have contacted us regarding the dates of the Staatsexamenspr├╝fung (M.Ed.) and the LIT/LING 601 exams. Many were not happy with the exams taking place in the last week of the lecture period. We take your concerns seriously and have therefore talked to Professor Sand and Professor Hoffmann. Please read the following information carefully and feel free to contact us if you have any further questions.

Staatsexamen (M.Ed.)
- Since the Staatsexamenspr├╝fungen are normal oral exams and not actual (old system) Staatsexamen, there is no
four week notice period. (So it is perfectly legal to have an exam in the last week of class.)
- There is an alternative date for this exam in September. Students are free to take the exam on that date.
However, the department advises students to take the exam in the last week of class. Students who fail the exam
in September will have to wait quite a long time for their next attempt.

LING/LIT 601
- The reason for the exam taking place in the last week of class is that students who wish to switch universities need
their Bachelor certificates as soon as possible in order to apply at other universities.
- There is an alternative date in October. Students are free to take the exam then instead of the last week of class.
